BREAKING: Senators Set To Vote On E-Transmission Of Election Results

Senators in the National Assembly’s upper chamber will vote on how the Independent National Electoral Commission will transmit election results on election day.

In its report, the Senate Committee on the subject advised that INEC “may send election results by electronic means where and when practicable.”

Senator Sabi Abdullahi stated that INEC “may contemplate electronic collation of results if the Nigeria Communications Commission deems the national network coverage appropriate and secure, and the National Assembly approves it.”

The PUNCH previously reported that there was a ruckus on the Senate floor on Thursday over INEC’s method of transmitting results.

When the red chamber moved to change Clause 52 (3) of the new Electoral Act, trouble ensued.

The Senate President was forced to convene a closed session as a result of the development.

Details will be provided later…
