PDP Gov’ship Candidate Runs For His Life, Alleges Plot To Murder Him

The 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Oladipupo Adebutu, clarified the reasons for his prolonged absence from Nigeria revealing that his life is threatened.

In an interview with Punch, Adebutu explained that he left the country due to the challenging and tumultuous nature of the election season, characterized by an unprecedented level of anarchy and mayhem.

“One won’t believe it was an election. One would rather think it was a war,” Adebutu remarked, expressing concern about the widespread availability of guns during the electoral process. He highlighted the escalating violence, particularly in Sagamu, where the presence of firearms correlated with the disenfranchisement of voters.

Adebutu emphasized the need to exercise common sense and prioritize personal safety, considering the potential consequences of remaining in a volatile environment.

He stated, “Rather than be murdered and allow the mandate to die a natural death, I will keep away until such a time when the matter is disposed of by the court. I decided to take a break because we are not dealing with people with conscience. We are not dealing with people that operate within the law.”

Adebutu is in court challenging the victory of Governor Dapo Abiodun of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, who the electoral umpire declared winner of the poll.
