Scores of travellers kidnapped along Kaduna – Abuja highway

A yet to be confirmed number of persons had been feared abducted along Kaduna – Abuja express way.

The incident was said to have taken place around Katari between the hours of 7-8 pm on Monday night.

The kidnappers blocked the road, stopping vehicles and screening the travelers for those to abduct, those to rob and discharge.

The attackers also dislodged some travelers of their possessions after forcing their vehicles to stop.

Some of the travelers were said to have sustained various degrees of injury while trying to escape from the kidnappers.

The attackers were said to have laid seize on the road for about 30 minutes without intervention of any security operative.

The source said it took the intervention of one of the patrol team along the highway to dislodge the attackers who escaped into the bush with some of the travelers.

Efforts to get the confirmation of the police was not successful as the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Kaduna police command Yakubu Sabo did not respond to a text message to his phone and his line was not connecting.

The Kaduna – Abuja highway has been notorious for armed robbery and kidnapping in the recent past.

Even security operatives stationed at different locations within some darks pots on the road had not deterred the attackers.
