BREAKING: Lagos Environment Commissioner’s Wife, Prof. Ibiyemi Bello New LASU VC

Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello has been named Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU).

Tunji Bello, the ex-Secretary of State Government and current Commissioner for Environment, is married to the don.

After months of deliberation, Ibiyemi has been named the ninth VC at LASU.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu halted the exercise in May and sacked the institution’s council for failing to follow the guidelines.

Until now, LASU’s acting VC was Ibiyemi, a professor of medicine.

She went to Anglican Girl Grammar School in Surulere from 1974 to 1979, Methodist Girls High School in Yaba, and Lagos College of Science and Technology.

She also attended the University of Ibadan from 1982 to 1985, the University of Lagos from 1987, and the University of Texas at San Antonio’s Health Science Centre from 1994 to 1998.

Ibiyemi was an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Lagos’ College of Medicine in Idi-Araba; Lecturer in 1988; Lecturer 11 in 1991; Lecturer 1 in 1996; Senior Lecturer in 1999.

In 2005, the new VC was promoted to Associate Professor; in 2007, he was promoted to Professor of Physiology at LASU College of Medicine; and in 2008, he was promoted to Deputy Vice-Chancellor at LASU.
