BREAKING: Kidnappers Release Plateau Monarch Five Days After Abduction

Charles Mato Dakat, the kidnapped traditional ruler of Plateau State, has been released.

Dakat, the supreme ruler of the Gindiri chiefdom in the state’s Mangu Local Government, was kidnapped last Sunday around 1 a.m. when gunmen attacked his palace.

His kidnappers had made contact with the monarch’s family a few days later and demanded a ransom of N500 million before releasing him.

The traditional ruler, though, was said to have regained his freedom in the early hours of Friday.

Dakat’s release was confirmed by a family source to The PUNCH in Jos on Friday.

He said, “God has answered our prayers. His Royal Highness, Da Charles Mato Dakat, has been released. He is in good condition of health.

Asked how much ransom was paid to the kidnappers to secure the release of the tradional ruler, the source said, “All I can tell you is that life is more than money. Thank you all for your prayers, encouragement and support. To God be the glory, great things He has done and will continue to do.”

When called, the state Police Command’s spokesman, Ubah Ogaba, stated he would contact our correspondent about the event, but had not done so as of the time of filing this story.
