BREAKING: Interpol Arrested Igboho And His Wife In Benin Republic — Lawyer

Sunday Adeyemo, a Yoruba Nation agitator, and his wife, Ropo, were detained by the International Criminal Police Organization in Cotonou, Benin Republic, according to the activist’s primary attorney, Yomi Alliyu (SAN).

In a statement acquired by The PUNCH on Tuesday, Alliyu disclosed this.

According to him, Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho and his wife, a German citizen, were apprehended by the Federal Government of Nigeria through INTERPOL on Monday night at an airport in Benin Republic, one of Nigeria’s West African sub-regional neighbors. While attempting to board a trip to Germany with his wife, Igboho was apprehended.

The senior lawyer described his client’s arrest as “shocking” and urged Germany’s government, Benin Republic’s government, and the international community to “rise up and curb the impunity of the Nigerian government by refusing any application for extradition of our Client who already has a duly acknowledged application before the International Criminal Court.”

On July 1, 2021, Nigerian secret police invaded Igboho’s Ibadan home in the Soka neighborhood, arresting roughly 12 of his aides and killing two of them in a gun duel.

The Nigerian Federal Government has put the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Nigeria Customs Service on high alert to prevent Igbos from fleeing the nation.
