BREAKING: I Won’t Fight With Oba of Benin Over Returned Artefacts – Gov Obaseki

Godwin Obaseki, the governor of Edo State, has stated that his administration will not engage in “disrespectful exchanges” with Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin, over stolen items.

This was revealed in a statement published on Monday by Osarodion Ogie, the Secretary to the Edo State Government.

The antiques to be returned are neither the property of the state government or any private corporate company that is not a creation of the Benin kingdom, according to the Oba of Benin.

No state authority or individual, the monarch warned, can claim to be a proper destination for the relics to be repatriated.

The Oba of Benin announced the Benin Royal Museum is designed and will be sited within the precinct of the Palace of the Oba of Benin, from whence they were looted, in a statement read by Chief Sam Igbe, the Iyase of Benin Kingdom.
