BREAKING: FG Lifts Ban On International Basketball Competitions
The Nigerian basketball teams’ exclusion from all international events was reversed by the Federal Government on Thursday.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports Development’s Permanent Secretary, Ismaila Abubakar, said this at a conference on Thursday in Abuja, according to Channels Tv.
The most recent verdict, in Abubakar’s opinion, was supported by a letter of appeal from the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), which was signed by Mr. Musa Kida.
The decision, according to him, was brought about by concerned stakeholders’, former Nigerian international basketball players’, and well-meaning Nigerians’ efforts to find answers to the problems.
NEWS DIRECT had reported that President Muhammadu Buhari had in May approved the withdrawal of Nigeria from all international basketball competitions.
Sunday Dare, Minister of Youth and Sports Development, who confirmed the development had said the suspension will last for two years.
He had said the development would allow the government to concentrate on efforts to revamp the sport.
