Five Killed As Suspected Armed Robbers Attack Banks In Uromi, Edo State [VIDEO]

On Thursday, about five people, including police officers, were thought dead in a coordinated armed robbery attack on some commercial banks in Uromi, the headquarters of Edo State’s Esan North-East Local Government Area.

The alleged armed robbers also allegedly took away unspecified large sums of money from the banks in question.

The attacks against the banks, according to a member of the large community, the hometown of the late Chairman of the PPD Board of Trustees (BOT), Chief Tony Anenih, were too well-coordinated.

The attacks were “very coordinated in commando style, and they armed robbers started the attacks simultaneously,” according to the source, who requested anonymity. In this community, this is a first.”

Other sources in the community said first-generation banks were among the banks damaged by the suspected armed robbers’ activity.

“The sporadic shots by the armed robbers caused panic in the town. The robbers came prepared. People are just running helter-skelter,” another source said.

Residents were said to be making contacts with security agencies to come to the rescue of the banks and the residents.

Meanwhile, when contacted, the Edo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Kontongs Bello, confirmed the attacks, saying, ” that’s true sir,” but failed to provide further details.
