BREAKING: Buhari Names Ekpungu EFCC Secretary, Appoints Board Members After 6 Years

George Abang Ekpungu has been named Secretary of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission by President Muhammadu Buhari (EFCC).

The appointment will be for a new five-year term.

The declaration was made Monday night by Umar Gwandu, the spokesman for Justice Minister Abubakar Malami.

Buhari also named members of the anti-graft agency’s board of directors, which is chaired by Abdulrasheed Bawa.

Luqman Muhammad (South South), Anumba Adaeze (South East), Kole Raheem Adesina (North Central), and Yahya Muhammad (North Central) are the candidates (North East).

Sections 2 (1) and 4 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Act, 2004 govern the appointment.

Gwandu recalled that the “EFCC has been operating without board members since 2015”. President Buhari has directed that all names be forwarded to the Senate for confirmation.
