20-year-old Student Jailed For Threatening To Kill Teacher

Segun Dosumu, a 20-year-old secondary school student, was sentenced to three weeks in prison with hard labor on Thursday by an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court for threatening to kill his instructor.

When the accusation against him was read to him, Dosumu, who lives in the Iboro area of Ogun, pleaded guilty.

As a result of the Prosecutor, ASP Wale Diyaolu, reviewing the facts of the case, the Magistrate, Mr S. S. Sotayo, found Dosumu guilty of the offence.

Sotayo claimed that, aside from the convict’s admission of guilt, all of the evidence produced in court had shown beyond a reasonable doubt that the convict was guilty of the crime accused.

As a result, the magistrate sentenced the defendant to three weeks in a penitentiary facility with hard labor, with the option of a N200,000 fine.

Diyaolu had previously told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Nov. 23 at 9.00 a.m. at Eyinni Comprehensive High School, Iboro, Yewa North of Ogun, while reviewing the facts of the case.

The convict, a Senior Secondary 3 student at Eyinni Comprehensive High School, allegedly threatened to kill or injure his teacher, Mr Ismail Fadeyi, with a bottle, according to Diyaolu.

According to NAN, the prosecutor stated that the offense was in violation of Section 86 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun 2006.
