Tragedy as 12-year old girl hangs self in Nasarawa

The late Favour Williams, committed suicide in her father’s farm in Akwanga LGA of Nasarawa State

A twelve years old JSS two student of Junior Secondary School, Kurmin Tagwaye II, in Akwanga, Favour Williams, was last week Monday, found death in a mysterious way in her father’s farm.

Favour, allegedly hung her self in the farm in Kurmin twagwaye II along Wamba road, a suburb of Akwanga, the headquarters of Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

Our correspondent gathered from multiple sources, who begged for anonymity that the father of the deceased, Mr Williams Ma’aji, was alleged to have a carnal knowledge of the daughter and the issue leaked, ‘that’s why he killed her’.

Another version of the story had it that the innocent girl might have killed herself because she dropped out of the school and the girl was always complaining of how the parents were subjecting her to hardship.

The third version alleged that the father of the deceased is a witch, so he used his daughter to settle the meat he ate from other parents and co-wizards.

But, the youth leader of Kurmin Tagwaye, Thomas Vincent, who confirmed the incident said ‘only God knows what lead to the sudden death of the innocent girl who was seen around the village that fateful day she died’.

“The father told us that late Favour, was working on the other side of the farm with the mother and after a while, he saw her coming and she greeted him and proceeded to another side of the farm, that she want to go and eat ground nuts” he said.

According to him, the father further told us that, ‘After they exchanged greetings and the daughter went her way, he thought she had gone back to the mother through another road, but surprisingly on his way home from the farm, he discovered that his daughter hung her self and before he could ran and cut the rag she used in hanging herself, he discovered she was death’.

“We went to the scene of the incident and saw where she allegedly hung herself, the youths of the area were angry and wanted lynching her parents, we had to intervene by calling the Police, who came and arrested them. The mother was questioned and let off the hook, but the father is still in detention” he said.

It was gathered that the body of late Favour, was taken to General Hospital Akwanga, for cross examination and autopsy and it was established that no sign of injury or blood stain in part of her body. She had since been buried.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), in the state Nansel Ramhan, who confirmed the incident said the case is still under investigation by the Akwanga Division of the Police.
