World Cleanup Day: SWCL clean-up Lagos collects 556.5 KG

In commemoration of the World Clean-up Day, Street Waste Company Limited, SWCL partnered with the Food and Beverage Recycling Alliance (FBRA) in a cleaning exercise at Ereko Fadeyi area of Lagos State on Saturday.

The World Cleanup Day is celebrated every September 17 and organised globally to enlighten the public on the impact of human actions on the environment.

The Co-founder, SWCL, Ms. Omoh Alokwe during the clean-up event while addressing the newsmen, said the purpose of the cleaning event was to sensitize people within the Ereko, Fadeyi community and its environs on the importance of sorting waste from source and making their surroundings clean.

According to her, the clean-up activities at Ereko Street where they have a collection and recycling center situated at 9 Ereko Fadeyi Lagos, we had volunteers who came to clean with us and we were able to recover 565.5 KG waste from the Street and drainage.

The convener added, it was a day to give back to the environment. This World Clean-up Day is a moment to educate the public on indiscrimination disposal of waste and it’s associated health issues.

Alokwe said, Street Waste company limited, SWCL, is committed to recovery of non-biodegradable and recyclable waste materials and showed their commitment towards creating a sustainable environment.

While urging the members of the public, organisations, and institutions to take up responsibility by coordinating regular clean-up activities in their environs, she said.

Alokwe stressed that Fadeyi/Ereko community voluntarily have taken part in this year’s World Cleanup Day with excitement, taking pictures/videos during and after clean-up.
