2023: I’m Under Pressure To Declare Interest, Visit Buhari Too, Says Orji Kalu

Senator Orji Kalu, the Senate Chief Whip, has claimed that he is being pressed to declare his candidacy for President and pay a visit to President Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) as two of his colleagues in the ruling All Progressives Congress did recently.

According to the PUNCH, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, an APC stalwart, paid Buhari a visit at the State House in Abuja on Monday.

Tinubu said he notified Buhari of his desire to run for president in 2023 while fielding questions from State House media.

On Tuesday, the Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, paid a visit to the President. Shortly after their encounter, the Governor said he informed Buhari of his plans to run for the APC presidential nomination in 2023.

In a statement signed on Wednesday, Kalu, a former governor of Abia State who is rumored to be eyeing the presidency, said he’s waiting to see if the APC will zone the presidency to the south.

He stated that this will determine whether or not he will pay the President a visit.

According to him, “Fellow Nigerians. I have been inundated with pressured requests to also declare my intention to run for the Presidency of our dear country and visit Mr President following visits by my other brothers to Mr President yesterday.”

He added, “As soon as the party zones the Presidency and southern Nigeria is zoned to produce the presidential candidate of our party, my train which is already steaming shall take off with a visit to Aso Rock Villa and brief Mr President of our collective decision. May God bless you all.”
