Gov Yusuf Heads To Supreme Court With Evidence That Countered Judgment That Sacked Him, Ignores Appeal Court’s Request To Return It

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and its governorship candidate in Kano State, Governor Abba Yusuf, yesterday lodged a notice of appeal at the Supreme Court.

The party cited ten grounds for appeal and sought three specific reliefs. The party urged the Supreme Court to uphold the aspects of the judgment in favor of the Governor while overturning those that are not.

Governor Yusuf and his party also went to the apex court with the Certified True Copy (CTC) as evidence as it showed that the Court of Appeal actually upheld his victory contradicting what the Judges announced in court. The Governor was said to have also ignored the request by the Appeal Court to return the CTC in his possession.

In its request to the Supreme Court, the NNPP asked for an order allowing the appeal and setting aside the Court of Appeal’s judgment delivered on November 17.

Additionally, the party sought an order upholding the part of the Court of Appeal’s judgment that set aside the trial Tribunal’s judgment in petition No: EPT/RV/GOV/11/2023. The NNPP also requested an order for costs in favor of the appellant.

At a press conference in Abuja, the National Working Committee of the NNPP urged the National Judicial Council (NJC) to investigate the contradictions found in the CTC of the judgment. Dipo Olayoku, the National Secretary, emphasized the importance of protecting and strengthening democratic institutions for the advancement of democracy.

Olayoku stated, “We’re calling on the National Judicial Council (NJC) to, without delay, commence an investigation to unravel what happened in the matter. Also, we’re calling on eminent members of the bench (both retired and serving) and the bar, to be interested in what happened that we have the kind of scenario presented in the CTC of the judgment of the Appeal Court.”
